This movie is incredible..

I absolutely love this movie. I had never even heard of Gene Kelly when I first watched it and since then I've been hooked. I don't even know where to start. So colorful and such a masterpiece to watch. The end of the movie is like a piece of candy its so gorgeous, the dancing and costumes and colors and flowers. Leslie Caron is beautiful and the entire cast sparkles in this movie. I don't understand how people can say Singin' in the Rain is better than An American in Paris. I think its Gene at his best.

I never thought I would watch musicals until I saw An American in Paris. It's one of my favorites. Even though 7.4 is a high rating, I'm surprised it's not at least a 7.8 or higher.

I've seen "Singin'" probably 6 times and American in Paris twice (once on big screen for special showing) and Singin' is clearly a step above American in my book...It's not close either...

Yeah I would have to agree with RiaNadroj. Singin' In The Rain is better in my opinion. Don't get me wrong though. An American In Paris is awesome too.

I agree with the others. I had mo idea who Gene Kelly was until about 6 months ago when I saw Singin' In The Rain. I was completely wowed by Kelly and O'Connor, and I thought the storyline was nice and tight. I just saw An American In Paris for the first time yesterday, and while it's a good movie, and don't think it measures up to Singin' In The Rain. And I'm not sure how it won Best Picture. I just didn't think the storyline was as good. In any event, I agree with sunshine that Gene Kelly is amazing.

I think this movie is great too, even though it may not be as good as SITR, this is still a fine piece of work. Actually, I haven't seen SITR in 5 years or so but the memories are still as vivid, I guess that's what you call a great film.
Gene Kelly is incredible, and I love the way he smiles.

You are so right. I just watched it tonight on TCM and it amazes me every time. How anyone could not be enraptured by this movie is beyond me. Gene Kelly is perfection, the Gershwin music is impeccable and the ballet is a thing of beauty.

While some people may think the acting and script weren't up to par, I say "Who cares?" The songs and the dancing and the ballet make this movie soar above just about any other movie musical. I get tears in my eyes when Gene and Leslie dance to "Love Is Here To Stay" next to the Seine, and watching Gene in the "I've Got Rhythm" scene teaching English words to the little French children is one of the best scenes ever in a musical!

God bless Gene Kelly and the Gershwins for preserving their greatness for those of us who weren't around during their heyday!
