What was the deal with her grandmother?
It's never said, is it? I'm assuming she ran a bordello or something? But it's made such a big deal of that I figured we would find out by the end. I'm not sure why Ava standing up at the trial and announcing that she was the granddaugher of Carrie Crandall was supposed to make a difference.
