Why are there two priests for such a small town?

I thought priests usually came as multiples - though basing my knowledge on Father Ted might be a bit of a shaky foundation.
It is not unusual to have a a second priest assigned to a parish if there are sufficient numbers in the diocese. The Church understands that its young priests need to be trained in the everyday, practical skills in running a parish. This wouldn't be an odd arrangement.
