1982 MTV Airing: Am I the only one who saw it?

During the early 80s there was a short-lived attempt to revive 3-D movies, and here in San Antonio in the summer of '82 two local TV stations ran a couple of 50s monster flicks in 3-D, viewed while wearing the free 3-D glasses local grocery stores handed out.

Regarding "Robot Monster", I recall MTV running this movie in October of' 82 as a Halloween program, and their "version" of it was the movie with segments added in during the commerical breaks. The segments were spoofing the movie, with 3 people supposedly aboard the "space platform" from the movie, making jokes related to the story. It looked like it might have been part of a larger series, perhaps an early 80s precursor to MST3K, but as far as I know that weird airing of "Robot Monster" was it. That airing concluding with the same people staring in a cheezy music video called "Space Cadet".

So, anyone else here recall this?

You know, it was so long ago I start wondering if I actually saw it, or if it was on MTV or another channel.

I mean I remember it but I've never been able to find any referrence to it anywhere.

You read my mind, sbooth1! I was going to post about watching "Robot Monster" on MTV in the early 1980s!!! I believe - around this same time - MTV also showed "Reefer Madness" and a low-budget 1961 Canadian horror film called "The Mask" ("Put the mask on now!" narrated a voice, and you'd put on the 3-D glasses). Those were the good old days. I loved watching "Robot Monster" on MTV in the early 1980s. It was so much fun I ran out and bought the film on VHS. But part of the fun of watching it on MTV was when they poked fun at it.

I'm glad someone else remembers. You definitely were NOT the only person who watched "Robot Monster" in '82. Those were the good old days, back when MTV showed great music videos and cheesy cinema!
