Why was George Nader bleeding from his ear?

Just saw this hilariously awful movie at a late-night show. Of all the nonsense the most mysterious bit is when George Nader is bleeding from his ear as he kisses the girl.

The reason for this is never explained. He never notices it. No one else notices it. Was the actor himself bleeding from his ear? Did I see a truncated print that was missing the explanation?

... J. Spurlin

Maybe we should ask instead why all the actors' ears weren't bleeding. They had to listen to that dialogue, too.

I posted this right after my brother and I, along with some friends, went to see it at a revival house. We laughed our heads off. So funny.

(We were disappointed later when we watched the Mystery Science Theater version. But that show featured the film in their first season - before they honed their movie-mocking craft. Most of the first season is comparatively weak.)
