Richard Basehart is gorgeous, and, (former) priest or no, I seriously wanted to jump his bones.

Robert Wagner's also very hot, and so YOUNG in this movie.

Well, if I were on that ship, and the confused ex-priest was going cabin-by-cabin looking for divine inspiration of a different sort, I'd be walking kinda funny when it was time to disembark (or in this case, when the damned thing sunk)!

Basehart plays drunk very well. Did you ever see him in "Il Bidone" from 1954? He gets extremely loaded and falls down in that one, too. AND, EVEN BETTER, he pretends to be a PRIEST in the first few scenes of "Il Bidone. (That is some crazy sh it!) All in all, though, it's a very depressing movie about con men trying and failing to 'go straight.' Great work by everyone involved.

Richard Basehart is consistently marvelous. IMHO, one of the best actors ever! I adore him.

You are so right! Basehart looks gorgeous on this movie. And yes, he always played drunk very well.If I were Barbara Stanwyck's character ... I surely wouldn't just leave him in his cabin intact. Oh no! :D

LOL, I felt the same about the captain. Brian Aherne was just gorgeous.
