I always liked it as well. When the uber-cheesy TV show "Voyagers" did their Titanic episode, they used a lot of un-used footage from "Titanic" 1953, including a very long version of the iceberg emerging from the sea. You can see my page on it here:

Voyagers is coming out on DVD this month-hopefully the Titanic episode will be included.

I also love this scene, it has a real "Date with destiny" feeling of doom. It hangs over the whole story, because you know that that berg is on its way to collide with the Titanic, and all through the movie you know it's out there waiting. Adds to the suspense.

A lot of the Titanic footage in Voyagers came from unused footage of the sinking from Raise the Titanic, which was originally supposed to have the sinking as a prologue. A shame they didnt use it in the film, it would have been an improvement that the film really needed to add weight to the story.

Hello Shrink54,

It's good to hear from you. I have corresponded with you before regarding your fantastic web site.

I got a real kick out of your comment. I had forgotten the way Voyagers used the long version of the iceberg coming up out of the sea from Titanic (53). It almost gave the effect that iceberg just come up out of the water from the depths. And you are SO right, Voyagers was CHEESY. I still watched it though.

I also agree with the other poster that the lost footage from Raise the Titanic would have been helpful. I know that movie that a financial disaster, but I enjoyed it. I love seeing Titanic being towed past the Statue of Liberty. The musical score was one of John Barry's best and that is saying something. In my humble opinion, he is one of the best composers in Hollywood (Out of Africa, Somewhere in Time, Dances with Wolves, Born Free, and many other great works).

Nice to hear from you,

Mac
