DVD Release Question

Does anyone know if and when Universal is going to put their classic monsters on DVD again? I would really hate to buy an out-of-print edition for top dollars only to find the same film available a few months later. I suspect that Universal might be holding off releasing their classics until "Van Helsing" their big summer 2004 monster mash flick is released. Studios do like to do tie-ins. Can anyone confirm this?

The word from insiders at Universal is you are exactly correct. Expect to see a major relaunch Halloween 2004.

I know this is late, but on April 27th Universal is releasing Dracula, Frankenstein, and the Wolfman in "Legacy Collections" that will feature all of the movies for those respective franchises. Nothing else has been announced yet.

Yeah, they are just trying to capture an audience for Van Helsing (opens May 7). Fine by me, I'm just happy to have them on DVD. But I want the other monster movies now! Remember when Universal released almost every monster movie they had done back in the 30s-50s on VHS? This was early to mid 1990s. Anyway, here's the list (might be incomplete) of all the movies under the collection imprint that haven't been released.

Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein
Abbott and Costello Meet the Invisible Man
The Black Cat
Captive Wild Woman
Creature from the Black Lagoon
The Creature Walks Among Us
Invisible Agent
The Invisible Man
The Invisible Man's Return
The Invisible Man's Revenge
The Invisible Woman
Island of the Lost Souls
The Mad Ghoul
Man Made Monster
The Monster and the Girl
The Mummy
The Mummy's Curse
The Mummy's Ghost
The Mummy's Hand
The Mummy's Tomb
Murders in the Rue Morgue
The Phantom of the Opera
The Raven
Revenge of the Creature
Tower of London

I say: do Legacy collections of The Mummy, Creature, and Invisible Man. Then do Best of retrospectives for Karloff, Lugosi, Chaney Jr. (actually, the Best of would feature Frankenstein, Dracula, Wolf Man, but never mind) Put their random movies like Black Cat, Raven, Murders in the Rue Morgue, etc. into collections.

Just in time for Halloween 2004, Universal will release DVD sets of THE MUMMY Legacy (double DVD set of the Karloff/Tom Tyler/Lon Chaney films), THE INVISIBLE MAN Legacy (another double DVD set, with the various Invisible Man/Agent/Woman films) and THE CREATURE Legacy (double DVD with the complete trilogy, new documentary, and a newly recorded commentary for REVENGE OF THE CREATURE, with leading lady Lori Nelson).

Do you have a link or anything to this info? I'd like to learn about it in more detail!! Im excited about both The Mummy Legacy and The Creature Legacy, as I have them all on VHS but not DVD (except for The Mummy on DVD).

Check them out on Amazon, or look up any of the individual titles on IMDB, then click on the DVD icon in the Amazon box in the upper right hand corner, and it will take you to more information. Same day those arrive in stores, a special edition DVD of the 1979 Frank Langella DRACULA and the recent VAN HELSING movie also arrive on Universal DVD, each with extras.+

I just bought the Creature Legacy DVD package last night after realizing that it's a 2-disc set that includes the two sequels, "Revenge of the Creature" and "The Creature Walks Among Us," among other extras. :)
