The Book: 'Filming The Dam Busters'

I just received this from Amazon. For those of us interested in the film this is a very rich volume, and I recommend it. There are many stills from production of the film, and other photos of preparation, and so forth, plus details about cast, aircrew, and the re-creation of the conception of the attack, the training, and the raid itself. The author is Jonathan Falconer, who has also written a recent historical account of the raid (which I've not yet received from Amazon). 20 Pounds in the UK, cheaper in the US, and worth every pence, there or here. And, aside, if you're ever in London, go to the British War Museum, and see the actual models of the dams that were used to train the aircrews and, if memory serves me right, were used in the film.

Thanks for the tip, will look into that book. cheers.

Gotta admit that the lanc is a thing of beauty! had the pleasure of going in the BBMF lancaster (since my grandad was aircrew during war, rear gunner in lanc) and my god it scared me half to death! i could imagine being at 30 000ft and getting caught in a searchlight! scary

Btw, it's the Imperial War Museum - you'd be hard pressed to find the 'British War Museum'.

You're right, and thank you for the correction. I've visited the museum at least twice, and I should have been more aware of where I'd been. Check it up to Anglophilia, and maybe my own reticence to use "Imperial" given the behavior of my own country these many years.
