shareWe commented on that too ...tiny
shareVera was one of the greatest dancers that ever made a movie. I think she and Ann Miller were the best that ever were. I'm not sure how true it is, but there was a rumor that she was anorexic and that is why she never let her neck be uncovered. The rumor was that it showed when you could see her throat. She only made one more movie after White Christmas.
shareHer talent just flys off the screen during this movie. Her dancing is amazing. So sad that she suffered in that way.
shareVera Ellen was a magnificent dancer. I love to watch her. Interesting, that I can't find anything about Danny Kaye's dance training. His movements are far beyond those of an actor trained for this specific film. "The Best Things" is one of my favorite dances.
shareHave you read The Danny Kaye Story? Danny's first real job in entertainment was at White Roe Lake in New York in the summer camps of the Catskills. He waited on tables and took part in plays and musicals put on by a stock company. A dancing duo, Dave Harvey and Kathleen Young, decided they needed a third performer and gave Danny a little dance training. They became The Three Terpsichoreans.
shareThanks for the information! Danny Kaye was a huge talent!
shareFantastic Danny Kaye history sounds just like he was the guy from Dirty Dancing ;-)
shareI would agree that Vera-Ellen and Ann Miller were two of the most talented dancers ever. I can only imagine the heights Vera-Ellen might have reached if she could have sung as well.
shareI think Vera is an amazing beauty, that smile is incredible.
shareHaving been a professional dancer myself, I can attest to the fact that you burn off thousands of calories every day of class, rehearsal, and performance. Vera-Ellen was not anorexic. She was an elite athlete. You can find photos of her in low-neck clothes that reveal that her neck was perfectly normal. In the movie "Let's Be Happy" she wears open-neck shirts that show there was nothing wrong with her neck. She just liked high-neck costumes because she thought they looked good on her.
sharethey always covered her neck. strange.
