She looks like a concentration camp survivor in this film, and it's sickening!
Why didn't they replace her? She clearly had some MAJOR problems!

I wrote the following on another thread in this forum on a similar subject:
"Okay, she didn't have the greatest upper thighs in the world. Big deal. She was very pretty, and was an amazing hoofer. And if she were truly anorexic at the time of filming, she wouldn't have had the muscle strength to do those extremely athletic dance moves."
Her face or neck didn't show later stages of anorexia. I really think that even if she were a bit heavier, her upper thighs still would have been skinny. Nauseating? Not to me.

I am watching White Christmas as I type. Yes, Vera Ellen was thin. HOWEVER, her dancing in this movie is nothing short of sensational. If she was THAT ill, no way could she have done those numbers.
You can't see her neck. I just watched it again. She never once had her neck uncovered.

Vera was on the thin side but not nauseating. There are different kinds of dancing in this movie. Not just tap. Vera was versatile enough to do the routines. She is incredible dancer. Its because of this movie, that I wanted to see her in more movies. Her dancing is mesmerizing. She is gorgeous. Vera is defiantly one of the most talented dancers of all time.

She was one of the best dancers ever to dance on film. They used her because she could do what they needed done. She retired after making one more movie after White Christmas.
If you watch Easter Parade, you'll see Ann Miller dancing her heart out although she had a hidden back brace on because of a severe injury. In those days they went on with the show, so to speak.
Obviously she dropped some pounds during filming. But she looks bone thin. I would have cut some of those skimpy outfits she wore. Her legs looked as though they would snap.

Oh, I think she is beautiful. Thin yes, nauseating, absolutely not.
shareVera was on thin side. She was so beautiful and incredibly talented. She was impossible to replace as the whole package which was star who would draw in audiences and charming beautiful versatile immaculate dancer. Loved her in this movie. She did beautiful phenomenal job dancing like always.
