Couple of Funny Mary Wickes Scenes

I read most of the threads and did not see mentions of these. One is when Bob and Phil are going to bring their show to the Inn to help generate some business for the general. Emma (Mary) runs out and tells them she won't tell the general but she thinks it is the nicest thing. He asks her how she knows and she said like any decent self respecting housekeeper she listened in on the other phone. Then she immediately lays a full liplock on Phil (Danny Kaye) who points to Bob (Bing) and says he thought of it. Then she goes and lays a full liplock on Bob. What I thought was hysterical was that Bob reacts with "Wow" and then starts to grab her for another one. I mean I guess he hasn't had a kiss from a woman in quite some time if he wanted to get another one from Emma. Then Phil grabs him and says "hey let's get a hold of yourself, come on" and off they run.

The other funny scene with her was when Phil has come up with a way to distract the general from watching that TV show by pretending he fell down the stairs. Emma (Mary) comes running in the room screaming. Well her scream is hilarious. It was more like something was on fire than someone fell.

It also seemed that both the granddaughter and Emma know of this plan to keep him from watching the show because first the granddaughter tries to get him to fix something on the jeep and when that doesn't work Emma runs in screaming.

Anyway I read on another thread that people were wondering why Emma who mistakenly thought they were doing this for publicity and that it would hurt the general was not doing something to stop it herself if she was upset yet here in this scene she is actually helping them so that kind of contradicts things with what she thought she knew.

Just wondered if others caught or remembered those two very funny moments and especially why Bob would have reacted quite the way he did to that kiss.

Good observations, cluvonj. Mary Wickes was a gem. Such a natural talent and scene=stealer.

I LOVE that she is a housekeeper in Vermont, but she reads "Variety" Mary Wickes was one of a kind

A daffy woman constantly strives to become a star.
