Freckle Face Hanes The Dog Face Boy?

Anyone else think the guy who posed for the photo of Betty and Judy's brother isn't that ugly? I mean he really wasn't bad looking at all... That always confused me. Oh well... Love this movie!

The photo is that of the late Carl Switzer. He's better known as Alfalfa from the Our Gang/Little Rascals shorts.

reply

Yeah, but like the OP writes, Alfalfa or not, he's not really ugly. Just has a goofy expression. I wonder how much Switzer was paid to do that photo. He'd hit hard times by then so I guess any job would've been welcome.

Yeah, well, just imagine if Betty or Judy looked just like Benny - - "Freckle-face Betty, the Dog-Face Girl"??? She'd be an old maid before she'd snag Bob!

reply

That is awesome. When I saw it, I thought it was Alfalfa... but it probably wouldn't have occurred to me except he was also in "It's a Wonderful Life" as the guy who opened up the pool. That photo looked just like him. And yes, I agree with the OP, he wasn't ugly at all in that pic! But then again, guys tend to unjustifiably think that another guy might be ugly.

Yes. Hollywood "old" is Dean Jagger in this movie, Hollywood "poor" is owning that Vermont inn, Hollywood lawbreaking is Betty and Judy escaping their landlord who claims they burned a hole in his rug, Hollywood "scheming and manipulation" is the housekeeper steaming open letters. The world of "White Christmas" is far from reality!

But a lot better!

I'm guessing the producers felt bad about demeaning anybody in quite this way, so rather than cast an actual ugly person for this non-role, they just asked someone in the biz they knew, as sort of a goof. I'm guessing Switzer got a laugh out of the whole thing. He knew he wasn't an ugly guy. The whole thing struck me as sort of an inside joke amongst friends.

tv/movie ugly is different than real life ugly.even the ugliest person on tv is still pretty good looking.
