This could have been the ultimate Christmas movie.
So close. So much to love about this movie but one: it would have been so easy to Christmas-up this film a bit more.
The first act and the last act are very Christmas oriented, but the balance of the movie is a standard musical. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good Golden Era Hollywood musical as anyone else, but I suspect anyone coming in to the movie past the first act would never suspect it's a Christmas movie until the final scene around the Christmas Tree.
Without changing much, even simple Christmas themed costumes for the dancers would have been a big improvement. And for Pete's sake, why wasn't the General's inn decorated like a Hallmark Christmas movie???
Still, I'm just picking nits. A solid 9/10 for me.
