Bob “playing trombone”

Does anybody know if Bob saying “I’m starting to play trombone a little too” was ad libbed by Bing Crosby because he really had a hard time focusing on the letter he was about to read?

I'm going to say probably not. Bob was reading the letter for the general because the general didn't have *his* reading glasses and added that line to express to the aging general that he was also not a kid anyore, but certainly anything is possible.

I had the same feeling. It looked and sounded like it was Crosby who said this line, not his character.
