How times have changed...

I just watched this film for the 2nd time, and that's IT. Never again.

I found it horribly offensive, shockingly brutal, and totally inappropriate in its assumptions and treatment of women; namely, Cherie.

That she would find herself being hunted like an animal by a mentally unstable, out of control bully like Bo made me so angry I found myself yelling at the tv screen. Where things so VERY different in 1956? Was this behavior truly tolerated? Bo is a CRIMINAL; flagrantly violating Cherie's rights, and yet, the only advice her friends and associates can offer is to tell her to escape out of a window?

Why didn't it occur to ANYONE to call the police, and have him arrested?

Also, to have Cherie decide, 10 minutes before the ending, that she actually wants to go live on a ranch in some god-forsaken town, with this immature, violent bully, defies understanding. What about her dreams, her plans, her goals?

Is she so completely deranged she doesn't see what her future is going to look like? That final scene, where he hands her his coat and she acts like she's just won a million dollars, was so nauseating.

Awful, awful movie.
