that this movie seems very much like an earlier version of two other later films - " Sleeping with the Enemy " from 1991 and " Airport 1975 " from 1975 ?  

I just got through watching this excellent film for the very first time on TCM ( Turner Classic Movies )  .

Yes and it is ripe for send up by Zuker, Abrahams and Zuker.

It also had the passenger must fly and land plane theme as in Airplane & other films.
