Leaving in the Dropping of the Duke's Coronet was a Mistake

1) Laurence Olivier and another actor drop the duke's coronet
2) Olivier fails to improvise a proper in-character reaction
3) As director, he decides to leave the scene in the film
4) He then decides to make it a running gag

He failed as an actor and a director in this instance. It was foolish to leave such a mistake, just seven minutes into the film. It takes the audience out of the film.

God loves filthy rags.

Fails to improvise a reaction? Did you see the look he gives the guy who drops it? It gets a laugh out of me every time, and by making it a running gag it almost convinced me that it was supposed to happen in the first place.

OP,
Ever hear of foreshadowing? I didn't think so.

Didn't really take me out of the film. I spent about 3 seconds thinking it was interesting that it seemed a mistake left in, but during that brief time to ponder there wasn't anything of note occurring on screen.
