I have been rendered powerless by your witty retort. Bravo, good sir. You certainly gave me a good thrashing.

Don't forget all of those Z's! There's just no comeback to something that well thought-out and caustically witty.

As regards the overuse of exclamation points, all I can say is that when Dorothy Malone is seen lovingly stroking the oil derrick on the top of her corporate desk as she leeringly ogles the studly Rock Hudson, there aren't enough exclamation points in the world to register my reaction!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

reply

I'm totally with you on that one. She should handle those things a little more carefully.

Also, don't you just love that the portrait of the father has him in the same suit, with the same stuff on his desk?

Just saw the film on TCM. The film "expert" felt the closing shot showed Malone all alone and holding the derrick which was a symbol of the family's wealth and power. Now, how could anyone miss the phallic symbolism as Malone caressing and stroked the derrick? Anyone disagree?

reply

I kinda thought she had ambitions of becoming a J.R. Ewing type myself.

reply

Yeah, about that film "expert" talking with Robert Osbourne on TCM...did you notice how snippy she got with Osbourne when he used the word "kitsch" in describing this film?

Does the oil derrick get bigger? ...discharge some oil?

I agree he is handsome. Very handsome.

By the way, when Mitch speaks to his dad about leaving because he is in love with Kirk's wife, did anyone not notice that he wanted to go to "Iran?" And the father guesses that Iran is in ....Africa, then corrects himself and says, "Asia."

Nice work. The 1950s Iran was so welcoming to all Americans. Oh for the good ole days.

This is one of my favorite Rock Hudson movies I like Rock as the good/guy hero I don't like the movies when he's a jerk that's why I don't care for Giant.

reply

He doesn't play jerks as well as he plays the strong, hero type IMO.

reply

I agree patsyq he dosen't come off as well playing the bad guy I don't know why there are actors who play the bad guy in such a way you love them or at least enjoy them.Rock was better in comedies and and movies he was the hero in.

Rock Hudson was gorgeous....
