What does the english title refer to?

At one point in the film someone refers to the Union soldiers as "You band of angels."

The film is adapted from Robert Penn Warren's novel of the same name. I wouldn't be surprised if Warren took the words "band of angels" from the spriitual "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot". That's not certain, as this phrase has been around for a long time. It occurs at least once in some translations of Psalm 78.

I understand that the novel is quite different from the film. but it's kind of funny then that they used the title in the film, when by the conclusion she still isn't married.🐭
