Would a remake be possible in this Century???

Probably not. 2005 is sooo different from 1959 in just about everyway. The first time I saw Gidget I was really suprised at how "50's" the movie was and I knew that doing it know, characters and situations still intack, would be changed to suit "todays" audiences (and we all know what that means...)

Case in point the "child molestor" scene where Sandra goes to Kahuna's shack and he almost kisses her. If that scene were done today she would have been pregnant and had an abortion.

LOL

I don't think they would have to change all that much to the basic story. Gidget deals with a lot of teens do on a regular basis.

You moron, Kahuna wasn't going to do anything to Gidget. He was just scaring her so that she would come to her senses and leave without feeling foolish.

reply

yes duh. we're not stoopid carmex. obviously, she meant that how we would think, and the controversy over everything. back then, that scene was "o my gosh close your eyes!" but now we laugh over it. so i agree with the first post; they would have to make subtle changes to this movie to heighten the action and make it more realistic (like c'mon, those surfing close ups? sooo fake. lmao)

I think a remake would be hilarious. But instead of a straigh foward rehash, they should do what they did in the Brady Bunch movies. Can you imagine a gullable, yet hot young chick skipping around California today? And maybe a modern guy with a soft side could be her misguided Moondoggie.

i hear that their making a remake of that teen witch movie with ashley tisdale..all i can say is leave the classics alone!! although another gidget would be cute hopefully with someone that can actually act...

reply

Probably not. This movie was pretty innocent and nowadays, life is not so innocent.

reply

Nope, not remakable, nor should it be. Imagine if you will, "Gidget" without Sandra Dee and James Darren? It's an ugly, unpleasant image which I will not linger on.

reply

have you guys seen "psycho beach party"? it's a parody that's better than the original, the sequels,or any "official" remake.

reply

Absolutely NO WAY. Why would you anyone want to remake this classic when we have this absolutely wonderful original that cannot be made any better. As I said in another post, it would lose it's magic, period.
