my Tom Ripley vs Hopper and Damon

I've never read Highsmith's novels but I find the character fascinating. Hopper comes quite close to what I imagine him like, although his acting and physique are a bit lacking, snappy. Damon's not Ripley at all, he's an element of the marketing machine.

What about a French Tom? Let me guess. It must be unbearable with them putting sensuality ahead of everything, especially good sense.

I'm not sure what you mean by either of those statements but I do believe that if you read The Talented Mr. Ripley you'll find that French Tom is quite a bit closer to the man in that book than Matt Damon's character is, even if Damon's movie sticks closer to the book's plot. I haven't seen the Dennis Hopper movie.
