WARNING: SPOILERS GALORE -- DON'T READ UNTIL YOU''VE WATCHED MOVIE !

I was lucky enough to see pick up the Criterion dvd edition of PURPLE MOON from my local library a few days ago in Halifax, Canada. I also must add that I have recently purchased a projector TV and watched this film at 96 inches on the wall. I have watched this film three times in three days. The sights and scenes and film locations, especially on a larger screen, is absolutely stunning. Even at the beginning when Tom and Philippe are at the outside cafe, the scenes are colorful and radiant. I particularly enjoyed the background actors sitting around and watching people walking by.

I also must add as soon as I can, I'm going to buy the Blu Ray edition of Purple Noon from Criterion.

It must be mentioned again that the photography of Italy throughout the movie is absolutely amazing. When they are on the boat, and are eating downstairs, the scene is crisp clear and when the filming is above on deck it is both nerve wrecking and beautiful scene. Lots of tension. When Tom is in that little boat it is spine tingling. I assumed he'd die at sea alone and my heart had gone out for him.

Yes, Tom is all about Tom and he loves money. The thing that might disturb viewers is that he is so stunningly handsome but lots of times comes across as sweet and he knows how to manipulate people and circumstances. Tom reminds me of a spoiled little boy who wants all the toys for himself -- but he does this radiantly and, yes, sometimes, even cocky.

I'm hard of hearing but that's okay as there is English subtitles. I was hoping Tom got away free at the end but, unless I am wrong, they found the tied body and put one and one together.

I also understand Tom didn't take the money after all even before he was caught at the end because he gave all the money to Philippe's girlfriend.

I love Alain Delon and Maurice Ronelt's acting, but that's just the beginning. Even the little boy who helps take in the little boat and is in the movie just here and there plays the part exceptional.

One scene I've played over and over is when Freddy Miles joins the scene at the cafe and says, "I don't like your pal," but then joins the table. I also like how he struts into Philippe's apartment and questions Tom. Freddy Miles' acting, I believe is nothing less than brilliant.

This really isn't a question but my few lines of saying how powerful I've found this 1960 masterpiece.

It simply is one of the best movies I've ever seen. As well, I must mention that Tom is handsome the way he is but when he combs his hair and kisses himself after he's combed his hair he looks like he could be in a high end fashion magazine. I also noticed he pats the blind man in another scene after they buy his cane.

If only films today could be as entertaining as this 1960 gem. If anyone who's ever connected to this movie reads this Post, I want to say THANK YOU for the opportunity to watch such an outstanding film.
