The Apple and the Chicken

Immediately after the two murders which Tom commits, he immediately and ravenously eats. He sits down and takes a vigorous and enourmous bite from an apple after killing Phillipe on the boat, and then, after cracking Freddie on the head, he goes directly into the kitchen and serves himself what looks to be a poached chicken, sits down and has dinner. I just loved watching Delon in these scenes. His reaction was the same immediately after each murder, cool and emotionally uninvolved and with no loss of appetite. I remember feeling the broad smile coming across my face during these two scenes when I saw this movie almost 50 years ago. Delon was chilling and amusing. Very French, no?

It must be the same with funerals. Why are people all sitting down and have a big meal after a funeral? One should imagine that nobody feels any appetite and just wants to go home. However, big meals after funerals are a common thing in the US and even more in Europe where I come from. To be honest, I will never understand that custom! I find it rather strange.
