Memory palace perhaps?

I think the film is about a man who raped and killed a woman and now in prison (where there are no halls and no parks) has retreated to his mind palace to try and reconstruct the events (this would explain why the paintings on the walls of the baroque hotel depict parks seen in the sequences set somewhere else and the partial conversations we keep overhearing) but his broken mind keeps drifting into fantasies (false memories perhaps) in which he became the woman's lover and saves her from her husband.

Really to count, a woman must have either goodness or brains.
