DVD Out of print?

This is such a fantastic movie. But the DVD seems to be out of print, cant find it on any online stores. Can anyone confirm this, and is there any release date due for another edition?

It is out of print, and not due to be re-released, but I have a copy :))))

I purchased a copy via normal retail channels two years ago, but shortly thereafter lent it, with three or four other arty titles, to my newly-arrived boss, who turned out to be a fellow fancier of arthouse films of that period. It required several hints over several months last year to get the DVDs returned, and in the event "Marienbad" was not among them. I timidly asked about it; he looked puzzled and said that he didn't recall seeing it. Screwing up my courage I asked him to review his home collection. He responded after a decent interval that it was not there. Alas, what can I do? He's the boss, and my (rather well-compensated) place in the organization relies on his goodwill as its principal structural support. I've given the DVD up for lost, and trust that such a classic must eventually be reissued.

You can get the DVD on European amazon.com sites, but it's in euro formats. There's a good documentary on it that offers multiple interpretations.

If anyone from Criterion is reading, please re-release this! I've been trying to get a copy for years! This is my absolute favorite movie!

According to an email from their sales director this past October, Rialto Pictures hopes to do a *theatrical* re-release sometime in 2007 ("We encourage people to see these films the way they were meant to be seen: on the big screen"). He was noncommital on the DVD release date, although in an earlier email suggested that a minimum of 9 months would elapse between the New York screening and the DVD. Note, though, that most of their catalogue *does* eventually make it to Criterion, and I'd imagine that they'd be granted first refusal on "Marienbad." I'm guessing: two more years.

BTW, the boss retired early this year, and found my copy at the bottom of a drawer while he was cleaning out his desk.

It is still available on Region 2 and it is very cheap!

I bought this one and it is fantastic (Maybe I just take it for granted that everyone has region free players).

reply

At least as a rental. It appears to be a US version; otherwise I expect it would stipulate otherwise.

Only the European version (Region 2) is available through Amazon US.

The VHS is fine, but you can get it on Region 1 from www.superhappyfun.com or just buy the (probably superior) Region 2 which I've heard has a short from Resnais as well.
