Criterion please!!!!

If you love this film and want it than write Criterion! Surely they're familiar with it and if they get enough requests they might shell out the money to get it. This would be a natural addition to the collection IMO.

Fox Lorber had the rights, but lost them to Rialto (which is why the film is OOP on R1 DVD). Rialto is currently restoring the film, and it will probably be in the CC within a year and a half.

Requests have nothing to do with how/when Criterion releases films.

Worth the wait then.

In the meantime I followed up on the matter and directly asked Rialto and they sent me this reply:

Dear -------,

I am very happy to confirm that we're planning a late fall theatrical release of the film.

Unfortunately there are no plans yet for a DVD release.

Please be in touch later this year when I hope to have more news about DVD release.

This is out in the UK on Optimum Releasing - a really good company, they really support film.

If you have a multi-region DVD player I suggest ordering through play.com or amazon.co.uk

Yeay I got mine from Britain. Image quality is really close to criterion level, just lacking a bit of there sharpness and grain, but other than that the image is great. The extras aren't up to criterion stnadards, but they are above average and insightful. And it was only $17. Good deal. Unfortuantley you need a region free player. It's worth the investment, though because there are many other films you can see.
