Did Mark Damon really directed THE PIT AND THE PENDULUM than Corman?

In the DVD extras for Matio Bava's BLACK SABBATH, there is a featurette with an interview with producer/actor Mark Damon who starred in BLACK SABBATH as well as Roger Corman;s HOUSE OF USHER and in it, Damon alleges that it was he who suggested Corman to do Poe's THE PIT AND THE PENDULUM after HOUSE OF USHER and that he convinced Corman that he could direcd PIT with Corman only producing it. I think that Damon's allegations about directing PT is totally hogwash and braggadocio on Damon's part since Corman in his DVD commentary on PIT never confirm this rumor and in his film career, Damon never was given credit for directing a film and is only known as an actor in the 1950's & 60"s and then as a successful movie producer since the 1970"s.
