Maximillian?

Who the hell was that guy? I must have been getting water when he was introduced? I was watching a movie and then there was some legitimate peril and then Vincent Prices' sister goes and gets some guy that's chilling by the fire?
Where'd he come from?

He was a servant of the Medinas. He appeared when Francis first showed up at the house; he was refusing to let him in until Catherine showed up. Not sure where he was in the middle of the film though - there are a lot of occasions when he really ought to have come running up to find out what was going on, but didn't. Clearly there's so much screaming going on in that castle that he's decided to ignore it.

A-ha. Didn't recognize him as the same guy. Thanks!

The really annoying thing about this movie was that Maximillian, the doctor, and John, Elizabeth's brother, could have been identical triplets except that John's eyes were slightly narrower. You don't need to watch the movie, but only the end titles where everyone's pictures are shown, to see how much Maximilian and the doctor were alike. They can be distinguished only by their clothing colors, add to that Maximilian doesn't appear much, and in black-and-white this film would be absolutely impossible to follow. There should be a law that one guy should be blond, one brunette, and one redhead (even though in some countries many people do look a lot alike)! Please do not confuse the audience in this unnecessary manner! I was ten minutes at the end of the movie explaining to my mom who did what to who and it took me awhile to realize.
