West Side Story last night at the HC Media Studios, Haverhill, MA

Hi there! I actually did make the drive up to Haverhill, Ma, which is a city north of Boston, to see the 1961 film version of West Side Story at HC Media Studios. We had a fairly good crowd of people, and it was an excellent print, shown on two screens in the same room. It's still a very popular film, and the pretty drive, and a snack at the Italian Cafe, Roma, in Haverhill, across the Bridge, was well worth it. West Side Story, as a film, has again, proved that the upcoming reboot/remake of this great film classic that won 10 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, on the year that it came out, is totally unnecessary--and pointless, to boot. One of the guys responsible for the screening of West Side Story last night, however, predicted that the reboot/remake, although it would never, ever top the original 1961 film version of West Side Story, would draw more attention to the original film, encourage more frequent showings in independent movie theaters, and draw more people of all ages to see it. I said that that was an interesting though, and that a friend and neighbor of mine has been predicting the same thing.

Hopefully, that will happen, and that fans will be given more of a choice of which of the two films to go and see. It was a wonderful evening of seeing my favorite movie, and driving up to a different town to do so. Although the Friday afternoon rush-hour out of Boston and Somerville was rather arduous at times, the pretty drive, and the fabulous movie made it worth it.
