Disgrace This Isn't in Top 250

One of the best thrillers of all time, one of the greatest screen villains of all time, one of the best scores... I don't know how anybody could rate this lower than a 9. It's a perfect suspense film. What could be improved? It's virtually flawless, especially for 1962, the subject matter is very controversial, speaking about rape and torture of women and children. It holds up extremely well. It's a disgrace this is not in the Top 250.

Easy 10/10. I rate this right up there with Hitchcock's "Psycho".

Just finished watching the original Cape Fear- 53 years after its release. In agreement with your original post.

I was amazed it has managed to hold up still after all this while. Managed to sit through this in spite of having seen the remake many times after watching its release in the cinema in 1991.

Definitely Top 250 worthy, even more-so than some other 60s movies there.

It's a truly frightening movie. Robert Mitchum was the absolute greatest in a role like this.

They didn't need to remake this, it's an all-time classic.

Robert Mitchum was scary. One of his greatest, if not the greatest, role/ roles.

I felt the best thing about the remake was the reason for Max Cady hounding Sam Bowden was stronger due to the undisclosed evidence. And of course Robert De Niro.

However much as De Niro is one of my favourite actors, Mitchum just pips him here for the Max Cady role.

There's no accounting for taste, but after wondering wether I'd rate it a 9 or 10, I was surprised to come here and see it was only at a 7.8.

I gave it a 10, based primarily on Mitchum. I got a sick feeling every time he showed up, and that alone is worth the perfect score.

Love Mitchum in this role, but having watched this movie last night of the 3rd time, and the 1991 remake about 3 or 4 months ago my biggest complaint is the pace of this movie just isn't very good.

Too much of Bowden and Cops trying to come up with a plan. Not enough Mitchum.

Oh, I love a picnic. Acres and acres of sand and all of it in your food.
