When were restraining orders invented?

When were restraining orders invented?Because one of those puppies could've saved everyone a lot of time and money.

The payoff for slogging through an hour of boring is never worth it.

They were invented immediately after this movie came out. 'twas what you would term "a wake-up call".

Welles, Huston, Kubrick, Lynch and Coen

reply

Nonsense. Restraining orders have been around for centuries.

reply

Well they were acting like there was nothing they could do to keep this guy away. I was actually wondering the same thing.

reply

The only thing that restraining orders do is make people stop bothering the cops about being harassed. They don't do a damn thing in regards to keeping away someone who wants to hurt you. They're just a piece of paper filed away in a cabinet somewhere.

"My name is Paikea Apirana, and I come from a long line of chiefs stretching all the way back to the Whale Rider."

reply

Wrong, wrong, and wrong. Sam and the police were bending over backwards to get Cady on something...anything...so why not issue a restraining order demanding that Cady not come within 100 yards of Sam or his family? The second he violates the restraining order, he violates his parole, and he's back in prison. End of movie.

This is simply a case of bad writing.

reply

I've never seen one that was worth the paper it was printed on. They only restrain people who care about the law. And in the case of this movie, Cady was smart enough to make it look like Peck was hounding HIM.

The first Criminal "No Contact" Order was authorized in 1979.
