According to IMDB it was not successful. Probably too intense for its time.

Right...just like you and me, I'm sure the OP read that in the trivia section; unfortunately, that doesn't answer the original question.

It always annoys me when somebody answers a question nobody asked...especially when it comes straight from the trivia section.

Anyway, I would also like to know the box office numbers from the 1962 version. I've been able to find them for the '91 movie, but not this one.

If anybody knows, it would be greatly appreciated. Please don't answer with, "Peck sold the rights to Scorsese 28 years later and finally got a return on his investment."
