Which version should I watch?

1962 or 1991?

reply

Both.

I agree, watch both. If I had to choose between them I'd go for the original but both versions are superb. The Scorcese version is one of only a handful of remakes that stand comparison with the original but if I were you I'd try to watch the first version followed by the remake.

Both, but the 1962 version is better

reply

BOTH. If you're a fan of classic films -- black & white in general -- then you will love the original masterpiece. Which do I prefer? Geez, they're equal for me, but the original is much more suspenseful--so it has the edge in some areas. But anyway, you should watch both. The '62 version was original, and in my opinion it has stood the test of time. The remake looks brand new, and it's way more of a thrill ride than the original; and yes, for me it's a masterpiece on its own right. I highly recommend them both.

The 1962 version is superior - it's embarassing to compare the 1991 remake to it. Mitchum was terrifying as Cady, while DeNiro was laughable.

reply

The '62 version is most terrifying- and without the vulgar language, graphic sex and explicit violence of the latter copy.
