Plothole: Didn't Peggy have a gun?

When Peggy and Nancy were hiding on the houseboat and heard a boat approaching, Peggy takes out a gun, thinking it might be Cady.

Why, when Cady actually does enter the houseboat later on, does Peggy not have access to a gun anymore?

Sam borrowed it and had it with him when he was on the shore waiting for Cady

Not sure...it looked like two different guns they each had, Peggy's being a .38 and Sam's a standard revolver
