Haven't seen this in a few years, but as I recall, they don't mention specifically where this story takes place. We assume in North Carolina, right? But it was filmed in Savannah, GA., and once or twice they talk about the "state capitol," and I swear I remember them saying "Atlanta" in one of those references. Anyone else catch this?
I watched it tonight. Not only does he fly to Atlanta, but in one scene Peck is filmed standing in front of a historical marker and the viewer can easily read it as being a Georgia marker.

Also, if you look on the boatat the Marina, you clearly the boat's Georgia Registration Number ( GA 3301 or something ) .
