Loved this film

When I was a little girl I saw this movie and had nightmares about it. Now, I know why. Robert Mitchum was so scary, my conclusion even after watchin it as an adult. The sexual overtones are very overt for 1962. It is obvious that Mitchum is a beastly rapist, an animal in his attitude towards women. The movie is great in every way - acting, cinematography and more. The fact that Lori Martin looks so young and is so petite, yet so womanly, makes Mitchum pursuit of her more creepy than ever.

i COMPLETELY agree. thats an awsome summary. i think it is cady's sexual attitude towards women that is so chilling and in a way, slightly desirable. its the way you know what he's thinking about lori martin, or the way he taunt polly bergens chaacter over the phone or how he practically assaults her on the boat house.fantastic scene in the movie (my favourite) but also suggestive and chilling
