locations

Could somebody who has seen the film be so kind and tell me what is the name of the street you can read on the sign at 30min49sec, when Angie and Rocky are waiting for the car? I´m searching for the locations where the movie has been shot.

reply

Gosh, I've paused and looked at the sign a good few times and it's impossible to read it! I think it might be a traffic sign. If it's any help, some of the signs on the buildings say:

Costa & Harris (with the word Commission underneath)
Leef Brandt Co Inc - think it's says 306 by the door

I've just watched this film for the first time today and loved it! I'll be keeping it on sky+ for a while, so let me know if you want to know anything else!

ps. Just done a bit of research and found an old document with an address relating to Leef Brandt as

304 Washington St., 0.0, New York, NEW YORK

Not sure where you live and whether you'll be able to check it out (I'm just going to use google street view as I live in Wilmslow, UK!).

Also, this link might be helpful, it mentions the Meatpacking District

Hi, that was very kind of you. You did me a great favour, thanks a lot. My researchs depend on google street view too, because I live in Germany and not in the USA. I try to find spots and locations where Natalie Wood did the shootings for her movies.
I think you are absolutly right with the address you sent me, because in the background of the Leef Brandt house you can see a tall building which in my opinion is the Barclay-Vesey Building and that would fit perfect.
Once again many thanks for your research and your kind support.
Best regards

Alright if I add a bit ? The apartment that Edie Adams has and Steve McQueen 'visits' occasionally (shown in the begining and after his black eye,)is in the west village. 255 West 11th Street at the northwest corner of West 4th Street. (The drug store across the street, now a restaurant.) Dull, baron, sterile looking in the movie, now vastly different today. This bownstone/townhouse is easily worth 9 plus mill. Natalie Wood's 'new apartment' is not on East 11th Street (as McQueen says as he's getting in the Macy's elevator,) but is in fact number 4 Leroy Street/St. Luke's Place. A very nice street for a store clerk ! And further more, (if you'd like,) Natalie Wood's neighbor could have been a blind Audrey Hepburn as number 5 Leroy Street was the location for Hepburn's apartment in the movie: 'Wait Until Dark'. Ciao

Also the playground/park where they go to see the family right before the abortion was at the southeast corner of lst Avenue ad 42nd Street. I live right near there. The park is no longer there however...it was swallowed up by Con Edison for many years and now there is new construction on it for some new office building for United Nations if I am not mistaken.
