abortion subtext had to raise eyebrows then


Overall a good movie, I saw it as a late late feature back in the 90's.

It's not even subtext-- it's just plain text, only they could never flat out say abortion. It's an interesting sign of how the Production Code's influence was waning by the early 60s. Lots of films from this period were getting far franker in their depiction of "adult" subject matter.

A very good movie. Saw it tonight and adored it.

A saw a movie from the 40's starring Douglas Fairbanks Jr., and some French actress. There were one scene where the female character was half dressed and zipped up her skirt in the guy's office as his colleagues walked in. I was shocked they filmed a scene like that. Another good movie that is kind of frank regarding teen sex and pregnancy is 1959's Blue Denim.
