So long to the message boards

Sorry to hear about the message boards being shut down. It's been fun coming here and playing GI Trivia, exchanging stories, passing along information, and offering opinions on the show in general.

I guess that leaves sitcomsonline.com

It was great interacting with the folks here.

So, to all a good night.

Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.

Fans must have felt like this back in '67 when GI wasn't renewed (I can't bring myself to type "was cancelled").

Hopefully we'll see another post from you before the 20th, caladon. If not...be well 

reply

Thank you benGsboat.

There is a story that involves Dawn Wells and my daughter that I was thinking of posting. I''ll try to post it later today.

Thanks again.

If IMDb truly wanted to reduce the problem posts by about 90%, all they would have to do is keep the comments boards closed until three months after a film is released. New films are where all the activity is and that's where the trolls go because they seek the most attention they can get.

reply

Sounds logical to me! But i think it is all about the money. I will miss you all.

reply

Yes, I'll miss everyone too, ghostfan. Should some alternative to these boards materialize, I'll keep the same screen name. Maybe some of us will be able recognize each other in the future.

reply

Of course, it MIGHT be possible to keep some threads going by posting them as "User Reviews."

I haven't heard anything about IMDb eliminating User Reviews, so, in theory, you'd just have to title your "review" something like "GI Trivia #37." There'd be no more nesting of replies and it wouldn't be as easy to follow, but it seems like it could be done. Of course, how long before IMDb caught on?

reply

Very good point, hey, with the reviews of shows and movies, we won't at all have to LEAVE..but the messageboards will be missed...sadly.

Caldon, I could never get sitcoms on line to work for me. I signed up for an account, but then it wouldn't recognise my password but wouldnt let me change it.

Dawn Wells has her own page on Facebook.

I suppose someone could set up one for Gilligan that would cover the show and the three reunion movies, the cartoons... probably not off Broadway, musicals or that rather odd reality show...

reply

Facebook sounds like a good idea ghostfan. I know there is at least one GI Facebook page, but it looks like you're only allowed to comment and not make independent posts.

Also, have you tried contacting the board administrator for sitcomsonline? They could probably help with your problem.

reply

Yeah, I did but no response.
If I try to make a page would anyone be interested? I really don't like the format of sitcomsonline anyway.

How sad, that you were not born in my time, nor I, in yours.

reply

I'm on both SitcomsOnline, and think you could try again, and on Dawn Wells page on Facebok and she has a Twitter account, and I follow her there, too. (You expected TIna Louise ha ha?)

FYI:

An admin at TheMovieDB.org has experimentally reopened
their discussion forums for all shows and movies.

Here's their Gilligan's Island page:

https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/1921-gilligan-s-island

See the icons on the left side of the poster-image.
Click the first of those icons to go to the show's discussion page at:

https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/1921-gilligan-s-island/discuss

This is still experimental, so there may be some issues.

I was disappointed at the boards closing so I looked for a replacement and found what seems to be a pretty good one in Reddit.com. It has boards for multiple old shows including Gilligan's Island.
