Mature was visiting the set during filming of the episode DEADLY CREATURE BELOW! Casting forgot to call in Arch Whiting who played Sparks so Irwin Allen asked Mature to fill in. Mature agreed. There is a newspaper article from 1967 which reported this info.

I really looked to find him playing the role of Sparks, but couldn't tell.

I love trivia like this, and if that news article ever shows up, that would be a great find.
