Will Seaview ever sail the seas again?

This was my favorite TV show growing up. It was definitely the inspiration for 'SeaQuest DSV' nearly 30 years later.

I would love for a new, re-imagined TV/Cable series of 'Voyage' -- or a Cable/Theatrical movie or mini-series (ala, the 2003 cable remake of 'Battlestar Gallactica').

Anybody else want to see Seaview sail the Seven Seas again?!

I echo the sentiments of 'moonbus69' and think an updated film or TV series of Voyage would be a good idea. One condition though, the Seaview must look basically the same, as in my opinion it's one of the most beautiful vessels to ever sail the seven seas!

I agree....just as they updated the Enterprise by keeping the same shape etc and just adding much more detail. Have David Hedison back as Admiral Crane visiting the Seaview as it goes off to investigate UFO activity etc. A good 2 hour movie on sci fi channel....and make sure to have the flying sub!!!!!!!

NO CGI SEAVIEW!!!!! must be a 24 foot model for scale….ive always preferred the 8 window model of season 1….and from the movie

I loved watching this show as a kid... never missed it and saw countless times repeated broadcasts, and didnt care at all.

I'd love to watch the show again, but I'm not quite sure if would accept NEW EPISODES... I know I am probably being nostalgic... I guess I'll have to try..!

Anyway, I agree to the fact that the Sea View is very beautiful..

IF they keep the design exactly as it was season one
and NO CGI Seview-it has to be a large scale model-say 50 feet-and maybe one 10 feet long for certain types of distance shots.

Yeah, the Seaview is a fantastic design, and the external profile should be pretty much identical, although the interior would need to be brought up to modern standards, although not that Mcfuture crap that Star trek spin-offs use. Perhaps what the navy have on the drawing board now, but with more room and some nods to the old show.

There will of course be crew changes, not in name perhaps, but race and gender, but with any re-imagining these days, that's to be expected.

The tone should be lighter than the new Battlestar, but not frivolous. Whoever plays Nelson and Crane should have charisma and intelligence and the ability to bounce off each other, perhaps even acting talent, rather than just a 'name' attached to generate buzz before release. Where Voyage failed and Star Trek suceeded was character development. Irwin Allen was focused on effects and monsters, and the crew seemed a bit two-dimensional.

One more thing; none of the publicity material should refer to any of the female crew members as 'feisty'. It's a character trait that soon turns out to be as limiting as the doe-eyed damsel trait in the sixties.

and a MODEL =no CGI ship!

Personally, I think they would make a CGI Seaview rather than the large, large models they made for the old movie/series.
It is just how they make movies these days.
It is all done with computers...which is partly why I hardly ever go to the cinemas these days.

As well as the Seaview, they would get the music score all wrong as well.
And, as we all know, Richard Basehart, Del Monroe (Kowalski) and Irwin Allen are all dead.

I say just leave Voyage/Sea alone.

I think that it would have to be close to the original, except to develop the characters more and allow Chip to do more than say "Dive, dive". If it is re-imagined, the fans of the original will not watch it. A good example is the re-imagined "Ironside". I saw one episode and could not watch it again. It was violent, nothing like the original. If the right people could be cast who would be able to play off each other and there was more depth of character development like in the fan fiction, it may succeed. Otherwise, the original should remain the only version.

Actually I have considered a tv show called Voyager to the Bottom of the Seas about a starship/submarine vehicle which explores the oceans of distant planets.

Traveling to many different planets per season, would make all the monsters and fantastic adventures more probable than if they all happened on Earth.

I personally think people are a little too savvy to buy into a show like this. There's a lot of information on how and why the navy operates, why they have submarines, and all that. And I think a show like Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea wouldn't do well, as per Sea Quest, which was Spielberg's attempt to revive that kind of a show.
