funeral kontakion lyrics

Does anyone have/know the lyrics for the funeral Kontakion when Yuri's mother is buried, and was this really composed by Jarre?

reply

The music is traditional, not by Jarre.

The text is:

With the saints give rest, O Christ, to the soul of Thy servant, where there is neither sickness, nor sorrow, nor sighing, but life everlasting.

I have been told that the kontakion was sung by the choir at Holy Virgin Mary Cathedral (OCA) in Los Angeles, but they were not credited.

Recalling that scene what a very phony looking dummy as Yuri's mother in the coffin.

Really. There should have been a real woman in the casket, maybe Tushingham with a dark wig, and just enough death-face make-up to make one wonder if it was really her.

"Shake me up, Judy!"

I don't think it is a dummy. I believe the woman in the casket is played by Ingrid Pitt, who has 4 or 5 bit parts (uncredited) in Zhivago. She later became famous doing horror films but was living in Spain at the time and got several "extra" jobs in this film. She is of Polish descent and could pass for Russian, having dark hair and eyes and sharp features, though for most of her career she dyed her hair light brown.

She had a chameleon-like ability to look very different in differing roles. The photo of her here shows her as a brunette in old-fashioned clothes:

It was far cheaper to hire an extra than to have a dummy specially made to order.
