What makes you think that people who are attractive by conventional standards ("beautiful") must have children that are the same? It often does not work like that in real life. Suzanne Farrington does not look like her mother Vivien Leigh (though I think she's still an attractive woman) and Charlotte Gainsbourg meets conventional standards about female beauty, even though her father Serge was…well, ugly. At least according to mainstream taste. But he still had something appealing about him in his younger days, I just cannot say what it was.
Also, keep in mind that Tushingham is supposed to be a manual worker after a long day of work, which explains why she's wearing simple clothes, a head scarf and no visible make-up and looks tired.
