Gay characters?

1) The blond white boy attending to Brock Peters . . .

2) . . . and, by extension (if the blond white boy is gay), Brock Peters' character, too.

3) Charlie Dierkop's character (looking at male bodybuilding magazines and pointing in sequence at the male nipples).

Or am I reading too much into this?

reply

No, I got the same impression. I don't know exactly what the point was of making these characters gay, however.

Well, the whole movie was quite boundary-breaking, featuring so many Latino & Negro characters, plus the first real nudity in a major motion picture . . . why not add the suggestion that poof's are part of the city's population, too?

reply

Yeah with so many black people I feel the movie was well ahead of it's time. Very groundbreaking and a great film.
