Where'd they film Concentration Camp scenes?

Haunting beautiful film.

BUT

not that it matters much but it looked like they dressed up a modern US Army barracks to be a concentration camp. In the documentary footage Ive seen German death camps seem to be mostly 1 story shacks , not two story white painted buildings.

"Modern" US Army barracks there were not, having been WW2 temporary structures that were still extant in the 1960's. These scenes were filmed at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey. Specifically, in POW cage areas that were used for in-transit prisoners of war during WW2. So, the several guard towers visible and the wire were all for real, not just put together by the production people for the shoot.
