You Have This Movie To Thank For This...


Sidney Lumet invented the romantic slow-motion 'idealized memory' scene in this film (when the Pawnbroker is young with his family on a picnic) and it has been used to death by everything from bad movies to music videos and feminine hygiene commercials. Not his fault, but when this came out it was fresh in a way we cannot imagine.

Yes, really. And 'Bonnie and Clyde' invented the slow mo gory death scene - or rather used Lumet's technique to create the 'pornography of violence'.
