The Monkees movie on VH1

Has anyone seen the movie that VH1 did many years about the Monkees? I think there was even a Behind the Music episode that corresponded with it? What are your thoughts about the movie?

The movie is called Daydream Believers. I saw it when it first ran and thought it was pretty good. When I rewatched it a couple years ago, I wasn't as impressed as when I first saw it. For as many details they seemed to get right, they got just as many wrong.

I thought the actors portraying the Monkees did a fine enough job (especially the one playing Mike). It's decent entertainment for the casual fan, but a detailed documentary is more insightful.

The ending of the movie was very unrealistic to what happened with them. They also made Peter somewhat annoying.

The movie was somewhat well made but it really lacked in several areas. Personally, I found the Behind the Music and True Hollywood Story episodes based on The Monkees to be much more entertaining and full of actual facts instead of certain things made up for drama. It was also better to hear from the actual Monkees than have scenes re-enacted.

When there's no more room in Hollywood, remakes shall walk the Earth.

It was alright. The actor playing Davy was great. Some scenes I really enjoyed, whereas others I thought were pretty low rent.

I actually thought Davy was the weakest Link. But that may be because Davy was/is my favorite so I was just a little more picky. I hated the donut chin as it's such a defined feature and Davy didn't have that it really threw me off. The accent was ok I guess. I felt Mike was the strongest one followed by Micky and Peter.

Overall the movie was good for a made for TV bio pic. I am glad they used the original Monkee's vocal tracks for songs. i wish they had paid more detail to certain details. Mainly the looks of the Monkees during certain time periods. Micky didn't have that fro until the later years/ season 2 but they kept it on him the entire movie. Same with Davy with the long 'prince valiant' hair.

I get why they went for that soft ending but at the same time I wish they had gone a different way. It's a cliché move but maybe the 'present time going back to the past' framing device where they were older and looking back would have worked better.

All in all, it was good for what it was.
