True confession:

So far, only the one when they sing "Riu, Riu, Chiu," and the one when they make fun of Bobby Sherman.

Their music videos are always great fun to watch ---

As for the individual eps, however ---

My wife and I took the 2nd season out of our local Library (the only season they currently own), and after the 1st 3 eps, boy was I disappointed ---

The first 3 eps seemed so cartoonish and juvenile. I know I loved 'em as a kid, but as an adult, I just wasn't appreciating them, outside of the music and the special 1960s "guest appearances" (Godfrey Cambridge, Liberace, Joy Harmon, etc.)

No way was I slogging through all 31 eps in season 2 !

At that point, I realized that fans on IMDb would be able to help me out ---

I knew they would have much broader and deeper recent experiences with the eps than I've had ---

If they could share their fave eps with all of us, I could finally find some good eps, and really enjoy Monkeemania !!

Thanks in advance, everyone !

The Monkees remind me of my innocence of youth. This was the only show I would watch religiously. Saturday mornings, 11:30, on CBS, channel 10, I knew what I was doing. Maybe the show doesn't age like fine wine, but the music does. To me, the songs are timeless.

Yes, no question, the music is timeless --- both the pieces written by the "pro" songwriters, as well as many of the pieces crafted by the Monkees themselves !

Thanks cind5 ---

While slogging through them, checking out the music, I've found some eps to be pretty funny.

Truly, the only ones who could tell us if the eps are still effective (and have aged like fine wine !) would be the current crop of 5 - 11 year-olds ---

If they laugh at these eps, and enjoy them, then the show has truly aged well !

(Apparently, I haven't aged well --- LOL !)

Automatically any episode not including all 4 is out!

1. Monkee Mayor
2. I've got a Little Song Here
3. The Christmas Show
4. Success Story (I actually cried!)
5. Davy and Fern (just for the Different Drum bit)
6. Monkee vs. Machine
7. Monkee Mother
8. The Band Contest
9. Hillbilly Honeymoon
10. Monkees on Tour

Wow...that was difficult! Asking the least favorite 3 episodes would have been easier.

Ok, what are your 3 least favorites? Or you can start your own thread and we'll work it that way. Cool with me.

Bottom 3 ...that's a tough one. Because I (still) adore Mike, the ones without him aren't as enjoyable;they are fun as a group and when one is gone, there is a little magic missing.

I think they would be:
3. Don't Look a Gift Horse in the Mouth
2. I Was a 99-pound Weakling
1. Hitting the High Seas

(I grew up knowing all of their songs because my mom watched the show every Monday night. When the 20th reunion tour happened AND the Monkees Marathon on MTV,I was beyond thrilled. It was my first concert. I still think the music is timeless- and even some of the shows. For me, they just were something I always looked forward to watching or listening.)

My all time favorite is mijacgeo just a great ep.

Is that the very last episode ever made? The one Mickey Dolenz directed?

reply

Yes, it was the season 2 finale (aka The Frodis Caper). It was super trippy and most people either loved or hated it. Then there were those of us that were just sorta befuddled but entertained (mostly).

PS- Happy birthday to Mike and RIP Davy.

I liked it. It was weird, but a good send off. I even like the song in it, Zor And Zam. I think I'm alone on that thinking.

I like that song, too! The episode itself was just strange but - not necessarily bad - and just felt like a horrible way to end the series.

Happy New Year!!

Fairy Tale
Monkee Mayor
Monkees in Texas
Too Many Girls
Captain Crocodile
Monkees a la Mode
Monkee Mother
Monkees on the Line
The Wild Monkees
Monkees on the Wheel

These are not in any order. Fairy Tale is a classic and Michael's favorite. Monkee Mayor was very well written. I always liked the tag (ending) on Monkees on the Wheel, as well as the adorable Joy Harmon. Monkees in Texas had some of the great gag lines ever in the show as in when Mike has the Assayer look at the jar of gunk "It's Crude!" "Well, that's okay....go ahead and tell me, anyways"

reply

No particular order, and it may change from time to time, but as of right now:

1. I've Got A Little Song Here
2. Monkees At The Movies
3. Monkee Mother
4. Monkees Manhatten Style
5. The Monkees Get Out More Dirt
6. Find The Monkees
7. Monkee vs Machine
8. Monkees On Tour
9. Alias Micky Dolenz
10. The Prince and The Paupers

I just noticed while I was typing this out, all of my favourites are from season 1 haha. Not that season 2 was bad at all.
