IMO, Mike was the best vocalist...

I know most people will say its Davy or Miky. But Mike's voice was much fuller and richer sounding. Seems as if maybe his songs were too Country and they wanted that Pop sound, but overall he had a more quality voice.

Micky by far.

Its a matter of opinion. But I think Mike had a more quality voice.

I think Micky's voice has the most universal appeal - very good for pop/rock jams but not too generic sounding.

But I love Mike's voice. I feel like a lot of the Monkee's tracks Mike's sings on are pretty underrated.

I love the Monkees, and I do agree Mike had the best voice. As a kid, I liked Davy and Micky's vocals. But as an adult, Mike's swayed me into enjoying his vocals the most.

Mike is my favorite singer, but Micky is my favorite Monkee. Micky captured the spirit of being a Monkee. Micky and Mike are my favorites, then there's a drop to Peter as my 3rd favorite.
One thing that is not in question, Mike was definitely the best songwriter.

Agreed.

you're right his songs are more country like than pop.

I forgot the name of the song, but when Nesmith's cadence is matched with Jones' (or was it Dolenz's?), there are a couple moments of mass synergy that resonate fantastically.

Maybe it was "The Door into Summer"... I just remember that he and another were doing simultaneous vocals and the harmony felt amazing to hear.

Davy and Micky were competent as singers to begin with, and these were the days before autotune. :)

reply

As much as I love Davy and he will always be my favorite Monkee I have to say Micky is the best singer.

reply

But I will add it wasn't until I was an adult that I enjoyed and appreciated Mike's songs. I didn't like folk or country until I was an adult. As a kid and teen I'd skip over his songs. I don't anymore. I'm hoping and praying he will be at the 50th anniversary tour.

Mike and Micky harmonized really well in a lot of songs.
